As a core region of Saxony-Anhalt German history cultural history to millions of interested people from Germany and abroad, a very attractive tourist region. With the UNESCO World Heritage sites and tourist brand pillars "Romanesque Road", "Garden Dreams", "Blue Ribbon" and "sky-way" the conditions for successful marketing efforts have been made. FDP Minister Horst Rehberger had in the first and 4 Legislative period, a large part in it.
successful in this continuing, continuity and clear structures and strategies for the tourism industry are required to exploit the opportunities this growth industry. The destruction of the state marketing company (LMG) was the wrong way. Today's fragmented organization and the volatility of the tourism marketing prevent optimal promotion of the country in such an important economic sector of tourism. In the interest of the development of all tourism potentials of the country's tourism strategy and distribution must again be combined in one powerful organization. Moreover, in the marketing, all new technological possibilities are used to make potential tourists comprehensive offer. This is the case for the decade of the Reformation Reformation anniversary in 2017 as the highlight. 500 years after the Wittenberg theses, the starting point for The Reformation was, we can make life and work of Martin Luther and thus present our region as the cradle of the Reformation effectively throughout the world.
The Reformation as a central event in the history of the Christian culture of Europe, the development of a promote human image that has been affected by a new concept of freedom. The responsible, engaged citizen's conscience is not conceivable without the Reformation. The Reformation has favored the Enlightenment, human rights and civil liberties were in the aftermath of the foundations of our democracy today.
The central Luther sites are already special tourist attractions - for example the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt, Eisenach, the Wartburg and of course the Luther Memorials in Wittenberg. These attractions are now linked by pilgrimage routes, cycles and other events together. But it takes some convincing, so that the opportunities offered by the Reformation decade, are also recognized.
the FDP in Magdeburg early insisted that the state capital, Magdeburg, where Luther preached 1524 in St. John's Church is taking this opportunity and not sidelined. Over the next Years - according to statements of tourism experts - the so-called mission to increase tourism strong. Germany stands as a cultural destination in Europe in 2nd place (behind France). Among the world's 400 million Protestants (including over 70 million Lutherans), the German National Tourist Board identified a high interest in travel for religious reasons. Life and work of the Reformer and the visit of the Reformation ways and places for those interested in culture, religious groups, representatives of churches, universities and other educational facilities of high interest. Germany, Saxony-Anhalt, in particular, in the Reformation decade a great opportunity to be tolerant, culturally minded and open country to present.
At the request of the Magdeburg FDP fraction Council decided the City Council in September 2007 to set a first character and citizens, associations, organizations and businesses to invite to plant by 2017 in the city 500 apple trees. The action makes reference to a Luther attributed to quip: "Even if I knew that tomorrow the world comes to object, I would still plant an apple tree."

response to a request from the FDP Council Group had the administration to admit that the Steering Committee in preparation for the Reformation Jubilee 2017, chaired by the Minister of Culture of Saxony-Anhalt initially no representative of the state capital was called. That has now changed. Based on the positive experience in preparation for the city anniversary in 2005 representing the Free Democratic Party believes that the Reformation decade and the Reformation Jubilee 2017 Working group must be prepared competently. The state of Saxony-Anhalt has so far not yet understood, to control the issue of "Reformation anniversary / Luther Decade with conceptual skills and administrative determination. Responsible policy for the good of the country is different.
On the positive side, the Magdeburg Marketing Kongress und Tourismus GmbH (MMKT) is now closely integrated into the national and international marketing of the Reformation Jubilee. This concerns mainly focuses on the activities of the German National Tourist Board (DZT) and the "European Association Studies Reformation of the Association, "one of its members the MMKT.
The DZT has taken Magdeburg in the group of Luther sites for the marketing of the subject. Unfortunately, the MMKT been present on subjects related to tourism fairs on "Spiritual Travels" not in the U.S.. Magdeburg, a city of the Reformation marketed through the DZT and the European Association. This can be a powerful city and region marketing even better.
